Abstract:

In this paper, a comparison is made between the problems of sediment deposition in the navigation approach channel of Gezhouba and Three Gorges Project. The investigation shows that the measure of flushing the sedimentation by scouring water is the best method for Gezhouba Project, but not for Three Gorges Project. From the mechanics of sediment deposition in approach channels, some of the possible engineering measures for preventing sediment entering the channel or removing sediment deposition form the channel are proposed, and the feasibility of the proposed measures is also studied.
