At present, in Vietnam flash floods occur on small mountainous catchments and cause considerable damage to lives and property, to the national economy, and to the environment. The flash-flood warning is one of the measures to mitigate losses by providing information for local people to carry out urgent measure, evacuation of population and their properties. It is very important especially for areas where people must be living with floods. However, th flash floods have characteristics (sudden occurrence, short duration, big devastation) that cause many difficulties for warning. Proposed measures to overcome obstacles of flash-flood warning in Vietnam are put forward.
