Abstract: A simple one-dimensional numerical model based on the energy equation is developed to predict the normal flow distribution through barrier screens composed of several vertical segments of varying porosity. Comparison with experiments conducted in a 1:4.43 scale model of the intake and gatewell indicate reasonable agreement The numerical model enables estimation of initial barrier screen porositles required for detailed tests in physical models, and thus helps to reduce time and effort involved in the trial and error procedure used in physical model studies.
