Southern San Joaquin Drainage Water Management

by Douglas E. Davis,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: North American Water and Environment Congress & Destructive Water

Abstract:

This paper addresses management of subsurface saline drainage water in a closed basin in the Southern San Joaquin Valley. A large number of ponds have been constructed to evaporate saline agricultural drainage water and provide drainage for otherwise poorly drained farmlands. Water is evaporated so that there is a means of disposing of the drainwater. This has caused a variety of physical and environmental management problems. These problems as well as potential solutions will be described.
