Abstract:

This proceedings, Performance of Deep Foundations Under Seismic Loading, consists of papers presented at a session of the 1995 ASCE Annual Convention and Exhibition held in San Diego, California, October 22-27, 1995. Experimental and analytical studies on the response of deep foundations and facilities supported on deep foundations to earthquake-induced loads are presented. Specific topics include effects of cyclic loading on drilled shaft stability, a proposed new method for 3-dimensional analysis of pile-supported structures, effects of near-field versus far-field strain on pile stiffness, and methods for modeling the response of bridge foundations. Several case histories, including bridge foundations and a power plant foundation, are used to illustrate the methods presented. These papers contribute to a better understanding of deep foundation performance and provide researchers and practicing engineers with improved methodologies for design and analysis of facilities subject to seismic loading.
