Abstract:

The local hydraulic conditions concerning the incipient motion of the bed material in mountain streams are considered. Results of measurements carried out by using the radioisotope tracer method in natural streams are foundation of an analysis of the critical shear stresses in non-uniform bed material. The grain size and the grain shape effect on the incipient movement of the bed load transport are presented.
