Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Hydraulic Engineering

Abstract:

This paper provides the suggested guidelines for design, construction, operation and maintenance of wedge-shaped wire cylindrical screens used for aquatic biota and trash and debris screening at surface water intake structures. The guidelines include: proper application of the screen slot size, the optimum screen flow-through velocity, effect of water-level variations, hydraulics of the screen, preferred design concepts, screen cleaning mechanism, and problems limiting the operation and maintenance of screens, and methods for minimizing their effect.
