Abstract:

A finite difference method was used to calculate the nonlinear hydrodynamic pressures on the rigid arch dam faces. The arbitrary reservoir shapes were transformed to a regular cubic by simple mapping functions. In the present study, rigid cylindrical arch dams with vertical dam faces and parallel banks were discussed. The distributions of hydrodynamic pressures are shown with various arch dam curvatures, the corresponding variations of the water surface are also reported.
