Abstract:

Hydraulic characteristics of unsteady flows were investigated experimentally in open channels with flood plains using a computer-controlled water supply system. Some noticeable features of unsteady flow structure in compound channels were revealed which were significantly different from those in single cross-sectional rectangular channels. The unsteadiness of the velocity becomes very large in a main channel.
