Abstract:

This paper presents a data measurement program that was used for collecting the velocity data associated with barge-tow traffic on the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers and includes a discussion of instrumentation, physical set-up, and deployment plans. Velocity changes dramatically in both temporal and spatial dimensions during barge-tow passage. Satisfactory results have been achieved. Data from two sites, one collected from the Kampsville site on the Illinois River and one from the Clarks Ferry site on the Mississippi River, are presented.
