Abstract: This paper summarizes the results from a comprehensive laboratory and in situ investigation of an offshore clay deposit in the northeastern coast of Brazil. Laboratory permeability data from oedometer and triaxial cell are presented and compared with in situ test data from piezocone and piezometers. The coefficient of consolidation obtained from various methods is compared with settlement analysis based on Asaoka's (1978) method.
