Abstract:

This paper presents current research issues on management of information and knowledge utilized in product design process based on building object model concept. The objective of research is: 1) to establish a framework to structure building object models, which are viewed as semantic networks of objects in recognition, thinking and decision making, and also to represent knowledge in product design, 2) to present a procedure to explore design and construction planning using building object models, and 3) to propose functional requirements for future product design CAD systems, such as building object databases, frame-based management systems for building object in building drawing models, and network systems based on standard protocol. This paper also presents a prototype frame-based drawing management system which aims to demonstrate parametric design using building object models. It also allows a time-dependent evolution of building objects from design stage through construction planning stage. The system is implemented in Prolog and C under X window environment.
