Abstract:

A simulation model representing waterway networks with queues at locks has been developed and validated. Functions developed from queueing theory were formulated to describe the operating characteristics through a series of locks. The parameters of these functions were estimated statistically and an iterative sequential scanning procedure was employed. The use of relatively simple equations can thus be used in lieu of the simulation model.
