Abstract:

NASA Ames has formulated a unique candidate non-glycol based freezing point depressant (FPD) fluid material that performs essentially the same or superior to currently used glycol based fluids but has minimum adverse effect on the environment. The formulation has promise of being a direct substitute for currently used fluids, so that little or no change in operations or equipment will be required. This NASA Ames developed deicing fluid also has potential to be cost competitive.
