Abstract:

This proceedings, Dynamic Response and Progressive Failure of Special Structures, consists of papers presented in the two sessions of the First Joint ASCE-EMD, ASME-AMD, SES Meeting held in Charlottesville, VA, June 6-9, 1993. These sessions were titled Response of Truss and Truss-Type Structures During Progressive Failure and Dynamic Loading and Analysis of Structures. The papers presented in the first session deal with the behavior of truss-type structures including double layer grids, truss bridges, and transmission towers. Recent analytical, computational, and experimental methods for determining static and/or dynamic responses of the structures during member failure are presented. Results based on probabilistic methods are also presented. The papers presented in the second session cover analytical and computational methodologies for specialized structures subjected to dynamic loadings. The types of structures discussed include bridges, fiber-reinforced composite plates, tapered beam-like structure, and aircraft structures. Also included is a paper on a special method for estimating extreme wind speeds.
