Abstract:

Complex behaviors of the ball-joint connection, especially used in steel space structures, are expressed in the numerical model to confirm the estimative ability of such a model by comparing the analytical results with experimental ones for realistic scale single layered reticular domes being built on a hexagonal plan. Suitable material non-linearities are established for the fiber elements constituting the connection section, to express the special effects of the present connection. Reasons about the differences between numerical analyses and experiments are investigated and some conclusions for them are drawn.
