Abstract:

In this paper, the optimal design conception of grid domes in practice is presented. The classical dome shell structures covering some irregular boundaries often seems not to be satisfied by creative architects and engineers. The cable net form finding method controlling lower stress level within the system make it possible to furnish with wide range of optimal solution. Two examples of such grid dome recently designed and constructed are explained. Model tests as well as the nonliner analysis show that the inversed cable net grid domes are much superior to the mathematical configurated shells.
