Abstract:

Space frame has been developed rapidly in China and used to wide extent to cover various types of buildings. The large scale of application will unavoidably cause quality problems. Damages or even collapse of space frames have occurred. Typical cases of failure are described in the paper. The reason of these failures varies and flaws in design, fabrication and erection causing the failure are analysed. Measurements were taken to assure the quality of space frames. In China, a complete system of quality control has been established. Codes and Standards are powerful tools for quality assurance.
