Abstract:

This paper discusses the development of a design for a stadium roof which will provide conditions allowing the growth of a wearable natural grass surface suitable for sports including Rugby, Soccer and American Football and which uses mainly passive energy methods to maintain spectator and player comfort with minimum energy cost. A preliminary design for a spaceframe which is elliptic in plan with a major axis of 185m and a minor axis of 148m supported at four points is described.
