Abstract:

Limit state design equations are formulated to assess the reliability of light-gage metal joist hangers using the results of experimental studies. The design equations are calibrated against recommended target values of the safety index. Tests show that the performance of these connectors is very much dependent on the deformation characteristics of the fasteners employed in the hanger-header connection, particularly for face-mount joist hangers, and on the mechanical properties of the joist.
