Abstract:

Bridge management systems being implemented by transportation departments in the United States are limited in their ability to consider structural strength and safety when preparing recommendations for maintenance operations. An ability to assess strength and safety can be made a part of management systems by a proper selection of data and the integration of established analytical approaches. This paper briefly reviews the capabilities of bridge management systems and outlines an approach to the evaluation of strength and safety within management systems.
