Abstract:

Research has been carried out on a frame composed of a concrete-filled steel tubular column and H-shaped steel beam with the aim of developing a reasonable connection method. The proposed connection detail is to provide outer stiffening rings welded to the column tube wall at the beam flange level. The yield and ultimate strength of this connection were investigated experimentally and theoretically, and a design formula for this connection was proposed. Furthermore, the validity of this predicted connection strength was confirmed by carrying out a rigid-frame subassemblage test which simulates seismic loading.
