Abstract: The paper deals with an experimental study on a model of the forced vortex of Eur hanging reservoir realized by ACEA (Rome). Some vortex characteristics are investigated and, in particularly, the influence of inlet shape on the discharge characteristics is pointed out. The effects produced by water guide plates placed in the adductor channel and by spiral guides in the vertical dropshaft are discussed. For the latter case a new analytical solution for free-surface vortex inlet is presented. Theoretical and experimental results are composed and good agreement is obtained.
