Abstract:

This paper presents a brief status report of a research and development project funded by the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) to develop and test scour monitoring devices. At this time the project has completed Phase 1 and is currently working on Phase 2. The results of this project has led to the development of several instruments which may soon, or in the not too distant future, be available for monitoring scour at bridge piers and abutments. This paper discusses these emergent instruments.
