Abstract:

A two-dimensional vertically-averaged finite element hydrodynamic model was used at two scales to predict flow conditions for design of a proposed fish barrier: one for the general hydraulic conditions and a second for detailed conditions. Model output was utilized to predict riprap size on the barrier face required to (i) maintain barrier stability prior to overtopping, and (ii) ensure barrier failure when overtopped.
