Abstract:

Engineering geomorphology is the application of geologic and geomorphic principles to the solution of river engineering problems. Development of a process-based understanding of a problem enables an engineering solution to be developed that will work with rather than being imposed upon the system. The advantages of this approach are increased probability of success, reduced costs, and reduced likelihood of merely transferring the problem elsewhere within the system.
