Abstract:

The conventional approach to abate the pollution loads from combined sewer overflows (CSO's) is to include detention basins. The same reduction in CSO loads may be obtained by infiltrating/percolating the stormwater. Furthermore the solution of stormwater infiltration has a small positive effect on the loading of the treatment plant, while the solution based on detention basins has a negative effect when increasing the discharge to the treatment plant.
