Abstract:

Coastal zone is characterized by various factors such as natural and socio-economic conditions. The present paper proposes a method to classify the coastal zone into some identical groups based on its natural and socio-economic conditions using multi-variate analyses. The method is applied to the coastal zone of EHIME, HIROSHIMA and KHOCHI prefectures of Seto-Naikai inland sea of Japan. The results shows complicated coastal zone are classified into seven identical zones. This classification can be utilized for policy-making of coastal zone development and conservation.
