Abstract:

As an introduction to the subject of high-speed ground transportation (HSGT) and to help put the rest of the conference papers in context, two plenary sessions provided an overview of current U.S. HSGT planning. The first session covered the history of the Florida high-speed ground transportation program, current on-going studies, and plans for developing a statewide HSGT system. The second plenary session broadened the discussion of HSGT planning to current activities nationwide and worldwide. Four presenters covered topics ranging from an historical perspective of high-speed ground transportation, to an overview of the National Maglev Initiative (NMI) from two perspectives.
