Abstract:

Water resources management must modernize, innovate, and diversify to meet the challenges of tomorrow: reliable water supply sources of acceptable quality, a cost-effective approach to total water management, and balancing competing needs. Innovative technologies, such as aquifer storage and recovery (ASR), are helping water management agencies to meet these challenges and are changing the direction of water management policies. ASR, for example, can significantly improve water system efficiency while reducing capital costs by at least 50 percent more than other options.
