Abstract:

A scenario development procedure has been developed that is appropriate to the safety assessment approach chosen by Nagra and to the Swiss regulatory requirements. The procedure is seen as an active tool for managing information and specifying paths by which a demonstration of safety can be made. The procedure is currently being applied in safety assessments to complement a regional study of crystalline basement in northern Switzerland as a potential host formation for a repository for high-level radioactive wastes.
