Abstract:

A practical optimization algorithm for the member design of building structure is presented in this paper. The emphasis is particularly concentrated on the practical applicability of the optimization algorithm in engineering practice. After constructing the data base of commercially available steel sections and that of the predetermined RC sections, the relationships between the section identification numbers and resistant capacities of sections are established by regression and can be used efficiently in searching the optimum section in the section data base.
