Abstract:

Field data collected during vehicular loading has been used to evaluate the performance of diaphragms in composite steel plate girder bridges. This has included comparisons with finite element analyses. The behavior of the diaphragms is depended on the overall bridge deformations which is related to the relations between the stiffnesses of the diaphragms as compared to that of the girders and the deck.
