Abstract:

The project summarized here was initiated at the University of California at Berkeley to study seismic behavior of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge and to develop recommendations for seismic retrofit of the bridge. The effort has resulted in development of procedures, computer programs, ground motions, experimental and design data on seismic behavior of components and systems used in the bridge as well as analytical results on the behavior of the bridge. The paper summarizes the effort.
