Abstract:

To obtain the dynamic behavior of the soil-pile-superstructure system in a liquefied sand layer, shaking table tests by using large scale shear bin (4m in length, 2m in width and 2m in height) were conducted. A 2-story structure model supported by four piles was set on the saturated sand layer in large scale shear bin. The acceleration response of a superstructure is investigated in relation with the excess porewater generation. Bending moment distributions of the pile during liquefaction are calculated and compared with the one derived from the analytical method in which the pile is modeled to a beam on an elastic foundation. The soil-pile interaction behavior during liquefaction is investigated in relation with the load-displacement relationship.
