Abstract:

Project modernization for sustainable irrigation requires a design and operation plan which will provide water deliveries with flexibility and reliability at each level within the system. The use of a modern design thought process is more important than using sophisticated computers and gate control algorithms; simplicity in hardware and operation can often be selected as the result of sophisticated and modern planning. The lack of appropriate training for designers and planners has been a major bottleneck to modernization of irrigation projects.
