Abstract:

We present a new parameter estimation method which simultaneously computes element constitutive parameters and unmeasured displacements of finite element models from measured static responses. The proposed algorithm is robust in a noisy environment, can deal with incompleteness of measurements, and is amenable to grouping of elements with the same parameters. The unknown parameters are estimated by solving a constrained nonlinear optimization problem. Robustness and reliability of the algorithm with respect to noisy measurements and incomplete measurement are studied through simulation.
