Abstract:

The objective of this paper is to examine the statistics of the buckling load of a column with uncertain material properties. The elastic modulus is assumed to be a random process that varies along the axis of the column. The random process is described by its mean and autocorrelation function. The column is analyzed by the stochastic finite element method using a perturbation approach with verification by Monte Carlo simulation.
