Abstract: In this paper, time-domain methods for estimating the system parameters and the modal properties of linear structural dynamic systems are studied. The autoregressive and moving average model with auxiliary input (ARMAX model) are derived to process the measured response and excitation records contaminated by noises. The sequental prediction error method is applied to the estimation of the ARMAX parameters. Then the system parameters and the modal properties of the structure are recovered thereafter. Verification of the present algorithm is carried out by analytical simulation and experimental studies.
