Abstract:

Stochastic systems whose mechanical properties vary spatially are investigated in the present paper. The stochastic response variability of the systems is characterized by means of the concept of variability response functions (VRF) independent of the statistical nature of the involved stochastic field associated with mechanical properties. The appropriate discretization of stochastic fields is discussed using the VRF.
