Stochastic Finite Elements and Reliability Analysis

by Lucia Faravelli, Univ of Pavia, Pavia, Italy,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Probabilistic Mechanics and Structural and Geotechnical Reliability

Abstract:

A general - purpose approach for assessing the reliability of a nonlinear mechanical system under stochastic conditions was presented in (Faravelli, 1991). It combines the skeleton of classical reliability methods with the adoption of a response surface scheme. This paper discusses the discretization of the structural problem and the related random fields.
