Abstract:

Theoretical predictions for steady, uniform granular flows of identical, smooth, nearly elastic disks and spheres on bumpy inclined chutes are obtained. Kinetic constitutive theory is employed and the resulting equations are solved numerically over a wide range of chute angles and flow conditions. The result are presented in form of relationships between the mass hold-up and the mass flow rate for specific chute inclination angles. The results indicate significant differences in behavior of disks and spheres.
