Abstract: Forty years ago the theory of elasticity could be completely characterized by A.E.H.Love in his monumental treatise as an effort to reduce to calculation the internal state of stress produced in linearly elastic bodies by external loads. The presentations of the distinguished figures who have participated in this and athe previous session provide a prospective as well as a retrospective vision of the fields currently included in the theory of elasticity. They show, in brief, how elasticity theory has flowered in recent years, giving rise to new areas of technical importance and great activity
