Damage Mechanics Modeling of the Cyclic Behavior of Plain Concrete

by S. Yazdani, North Dakota State Univ, Fargo, United States,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Engineering Mechanics

Abstract:

The sudden stiffening behavior of concrete under cyclic loading is discussed and the available experimental investigations to delocalize damage is reviewed. A discussion on the applicability of continuum damage mechanics to model damage activation-deactivation is provided and a method to develop a model which preserves the symmetry of the material compliance tensor is suggested.
