Abstract:

We present some experimental proofs of the influence of the disorder of contacts on the mechanical (non-local) behaviour of packings of cylinders. In particular, this disorder is responsible of the roughness of the localisation band observed when one compresses hollow cylinders oedometrically, which can be described by a 'universal' law.
