Abstract: This paper discusses the details involved in the design of a 66 meter high RCC dam to be used to create storage for slurry from an iron ore mining operation located near Manzanillo, Mexico. The paper addresses several unique problems associated with the design of this project, including its proposed construction in stages and difficulties encountered in subsurface investigation. The project is located in a seismic area equivalent to a zone 4.
