Abstract:

This paper concerns mainly the following three items on seismic hazard analysis of buried pipeline for design: (1) effects of pipeline length on risk, (2) effects of local site conditions on the response of ground motion, and (3) seismic risk to pipeline. Assumes regions of homogeneous seismicity over a certain length of the pipeline, dependence of length of pipeline can be evaluated through a modification to the earthquake recurrence distribution. Combining the modified risk curves and the uniform risk response spectrum, the approximate solution of power spectral density at a site can be calculated. The local soil amplification can be taken into consideration to emphasize the local site characteristics. Finally, the spectral amplitude of pipe stress can be estimated which provided the useful information for design purposes.
