Abstract:

There is growing interest at both the national and international level in the application of new technologies to the highway system. While many of these new technologies are revolutionary in nature, other strategies represent a small scale, incremental approach to improving the operation of the existing road network. The Inductive Loop Radio (INRAD) demonstration project examines the application of one set of small scale technologies to highway transportation.
