Abstract:

Small diameter pipelines are susceptible to damage at bends due to large seismic ground displacements. The 'Deformability Index' is defined as the earthquake resistance of continuous pipelines using an elbow and is presented in this paper; the deformability of such pipelines is calculated taking three parameters, i.e., the diameter of pipeline, the angle of elbow, and the radius of curvature, into account.
