Abstract: This paper presents seismic response characteristics of embedded pipes based on field measurements. Strains induced in steel pipe and ductile pipes with expansion joints are studied. Special attention is placed for effect of bends on pipe response. Soil springs which are important in seismic design by means of the seismic deformation method is also studied based on the measured data.
